KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- NATO says one of its service members has died in eastern Afghanistan from a non-battle-related injury.

The international military coalition says the death happened on Friday but gave no other details. Coalition policy is for home countries to identify their military dead.

The death brings to 59 the number of NATO service members who have died in Afghanistan so far this year, including 44 Americans, according to an Associated Press Tally.

The death is the first for ISAF this month.

Casualties have been falling in the U.S.-led military alliance as its forces pull back to allow the Afghan army and police to fight the Taliban insurgency. All foreign combat troops are scheduled to be withdrawn from the country by the end of this year.
